"For most of my life I've lived in West Virginia with my parents. When my grandmother died, my mother went into a sort of depression. She would be drinking, smoking, all kinds of stuff. Well when I was ten, my little sister, Kayla came into the world unexpectedly. She didn't respond to sounds at first and so we took her to the doctors. They told us she was deaf and that sent my mother into a bigger depression. A couple years passed and my dad and I came home to a young Kayla all by herself. That's when I started caring for her more, but dad was still taking care of her too, just he was trying to make more money for us. A year passed when we got a call from the Seattle Police. They had found my mother and thrown her into jail for drug abuse. My father made us pack up and move, but we didn't have the money to move to Seattle so we went to Forks instead. Now I'm always taking care of Kayla while my dad (who really shouldn't be called that anymore) is working his butt off just so he can see my mom. He gets drunk sometimes too and likes to beat me. I won't let him touch her though."
