Things had been hectic with Bree and her friends the past week. Reagan liked Jake, which meant some kind of thing between Reagan and Izzybelle, Reagan was being put on more patrols since she was skipping (or, as Paul put it, relaxing. Right.) Sometimes Bree and Reagan joked she was Sam's favorite since she was being put on so many patrols. And then, she had gotten some news. From Reagan. Nick Levi was back. Again. Forever. Why didn't he tell Breeana herself? Random questions roamed around her head. Did she really ever want to see his face again? Could she risk it all? The heartbreak that she had had before, once by him himself? Did he even want to see her? After half a year, he stopped calling her.
That's when her phone rang and the whole world seemed to stop for one moment, but not really.
It was a text alert, and the ring tone that that one had hadn't been heard in 1.5 years. In forever, really. She knew exactly who is was. Would she even dare to look at it, or ignore it completely? She lay on her bed, thinking. Why did she need to spend minutes, which seemed like hours, on words? That was when Sydney, her fifteen year old sister, entered the room. They had actually shared a room. Sydney asked what Bree was thinking about, why she seemed so glum, and Bree told her everything. Sydney sort of remembered Nick. "Well you should at least read it!" The energetic fifteen year old said. She was still full of energy after a basketball game. It got annoying at times, but Bree truthfully loved her younger sister.
So, Bree listened to the petite human girl's advice. She took out her phone, the Palm Pixie, and looked at the text. He said he was back, (obvious), that he was at the Lucky Panda and he wanted to see her. She didn't quite understand how to react, but it didn't stop her heart from doing cartwheels. It didn't stop her face from lighting up. Sydney talked to her some more, about her basketball game, as Sydney said they lost. Sorry, kiddo, Bree had told her, patting her head as she walked into the bathroom to take a shower. After she got dressed, dried her hair, brushed her teeth and did her makeup. She seemed to look good, perfect even, but why was it all mattering to her? She didn't love him. He had broken her heart two years ago. She hadn't seen his face since the day he announced he was moving. She did whatever she could to make it so Sam never gave them patrols together, took different routes so she could avoid him. Was it her fault this had happened or his? That was the real question.
Bree got into her new-old car, the one she remembered him driving when they were sixteen and Bree had told him to slow down, and he laughed. Like he didn't care that it was her car, or what she thought, or even her safety for crying out loud. He confused her, as they all did. She arrived at the Lucky Panda in Forks, Washington. The town smelled like a whole big clump of vampire to her, which was awful since she hated them with all her heart, plus they smelled way too sweet. Bree shut her eyes before entering the Chinese food restaurant. She opened them again and entered, to see Nick. Someone asked her where she would like to sit as she told the girl (who happened to reek of vampire and had topaz eyes, big shocker,) that she was with someone there.
She walked over to Nick, realizing this dinner could go any way. It could be a fight, awkwardness, or, it could be like the old days. Which she loved, she just hated what had happened after it. He looked much different, his hair was a lot shorter. Hell, from the back, he was hardly recognizable.
Nick, Bree said, not really meaning anything. It wasn't mean but wasn't particularly the happiest thing in the world, either. Feelings were mixed and clashing and she had no idea what to do. She wasn't lying, Bree thought. Reagan wasn't. Nick was back.
So, Bree looked down with a smile, or maybe it was a smirk, You are back,
