On the request of our fearless leader Miss Bella Swan, I thought I'd bring up a certain theory.
The subject of Imprinting is brought up in book three: Eclipse. Ergo the soul reason why I put this topic here. Anyway, as I was reading the book I wondered if Stephanie Meyer had ever played with the idea of Bella being Jacob's 'imprintee'.
Jacob seems to be everything that she needs. He's her escape, her comfort, her best friend, and even her heat while sleeping in a tent during a blizzard! And that seems to play with how Jacob described imprinting.
Like with Quil. He imprinted on a two year old. Of course she doesn't share his feeling for her, being only two years old. But like Jacob said Quil will play the part of a big brother until she is old enough to need him as a best friend and he'll play that part. And then when she gets old enough to have relationships with him and all he'll be there for her emotionally as well. Even sexually if they ever reached that point in a relationship.
And if you think about it, Jacob has 'played his role' in that way with Bella. Naturally Bella cares for him. Because who could possibly resist basically someone who's perfect for you? Which Jacob is perfect for her really. But the sad truth is is that Bella is more in love with Edward.
Which brought on my theory. Is it possible to be imprinted with someone and they in turn not share your feelings? Even in the real world there are people who are absolutely perfect for us and would be perfect for us, but it doesn't necessarily mean that that's who we wind up with. They could wind up your best friend or even something closer than that but just not close enough to become 'lovers'.
I had the idea that maybe at some point my character could become imprinted with someone, and they not care for her back. I thought it might make things interesting. You know the whole, struggling with the idea that she is eternally devoted to someone who doesn't love her back. Trying to hide that fact from the others but it being impossible since the werewolves can read each others minds....
Anyway, so what do you guys think?
