River walked slowly through the woods, thinking of what had transpired in school that day. Nothing but the usual, she was complimented on her intelligence by a teacher, hooted at my boys on her way to Spanish, and too shy to talk to the Cullens at lunch. Typical. River drew closer to the small clearing that she called her own. Reaching it, she laid on the grass and stared at the clouds. She thought about what the clouds look like. Then River thought about her family. She remembered what Thomas said to her before he died.
"I love you even though you're mean to me,"Thomas said, sticking his tongue out at her. River messed up his hair.
"I love you even though you're a brat,"she said. Then, a huge truck came out of nowhere and slammed into the car.
River could still here her brother's scream ringing in her ears. She got up and sat under a nearby tree and, burying her face in her knees, she cried. River cried for her brother and what he could've been, her father and what he was and her mother. She didn't truly know her mother so she cried for what she remembered, her soft touch, her scent of lavender, and her laugh. River tried to picture her mother's face but she couldn't. She cried harder. After a few minutes, she stood, dried her eyes and started walking home. She would always have pictures.
