Your name: Grimm
Character's Name: Rand McLeod
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Vampire Age: N/A
Category:Werewolf
Character History: Rand, son of Neron and Bea McLeod, became a vampire when he was seventeen years old. His older brother, Jared, oldest of the McLeod kids, became one when Rand was only twelve. The three of them, Jared, Becky, and Rand, grew up homeschooled by their stay at home mother. Their father opened up his own architect practice which he co-ran with his brothers-in-law, Brody and Mathias. The McLeods are extremely family oriented and believe strongly in the power of numbers.
The family finds its roots in Salem, Oregon. That’s where their name’s been dating all the way back to the period of Oregon trails. They never expected to pick up and leave, but then, a lot of unexpected things happen in people’s lives.
Rand had grown up with the desire to be a doctor. His plan had been to live overseas, probably Africa, de-worming starving orphans…but that all changed when he got muscular, hairy, and started become a werewolf when he got mad. Talk about a sucky existence. Ever since his first shift, Rand changed from an optimistic peace lover to a down beat somewhat emo kid who only sees a ray of sun every now and then. He smiles, but not often. He didn’t bother applying to college after high school, and instead continued volunteering as a fireman, which he’d been doing since he was sixteen. He continued to live from home, which his parents thought was better because they were worried about him. Life was pretty downbeat until the family got a call from Jared.
His imprint had been killed by vampires. Jared was a mess. Werewolves were needed to fight a battle in Forks, Washington. With the desire to be there to support Jared during his suffering, and also Rand’s insistence that he had to fight the vampires that killed his sister-in-law, the McLeod family packed up and moved to La Push. They took along with them Bonnie, a family friend and the sister of Jared’s dead wife. Rand fought the vampires, and his team came out the victors. The family decided to stay in the area since it was such a pleasant change of scene for Rand and Bonnie. Rand has been working as a substitute teacher at Forks High School.
Character Appearance: Rand is 6’2 and weighs 190lbs. He is not overly muscular for his body type, but he is certainly above average when it comes to being in shape. He is lean, not bulky, and his face is primarily narrow, not square. His average brown hair is kept cropped short at the ears and longer in front, framing an angular face with true blue eyes. Rand’s clothes aren’t anything to be mentioned—he is typically found in jeans and a well-fitted t-shirt.
Strengths: Responsible, adept at fighting, can be charismatic, people tend to like him
Weaknesses: Anger, self-pitying, low confidence, can be extremely selfish
Personality: Rand was once a kind, loving, sensitive boy. He probably still is, somewhere deep inside. He was extremely sympathetic, would go out on a limb for others without a second thought, and made it his life’s goal to make other people’s lives happier. Everyone loved him because of this. He was a foundation of reliability that nothing could crumble. Nothing except shifting into a werewolf…
Rand now comes across as a dull, lifeless, lazy jackass who doesn’t think of others and says things he shouldn’t. He is brutally honest with people, even when they don’t want to hear it. It’s as if his life fell apart so horribly that the only way he can cope with it is by trying to make others experience what he feels. Every now and then a shadow of his old self will come to life—he’ll smile, say something kind, and do something selfless...but that shadow quickly recedes and the new Rand takes over.
He doesn’t struggle with anger-shifts as often as other werewolves because he has adapted such a state of apathy that things that would have angered him in the past are now forgotten with a shrug. While Rand used to manage his neighbor’s lawns, hang out with troubled teens, and be highly involved in art when he was younger, he has now taken to drinking his Friday nights away, recklessly fighting fires, and feebly attempting to make himself into something his old self would have deemed worthy of life.
How is your character related to the story? The McLeod family werewolves are among the recruited werewolves who came to help fight the army of newborns Victoria created. They will also be sticking around to help fight the Volturi. Besides that, they are just other werewolves who came to be around more of their kind.
Sample of your RP-ing skills:
Rand McLeod, twenty-one and in his prime, stood at the front of a high school classroom. That was the last thing he’d imagined himself doing at this age. While a bitterness as thick as ice rested in his heart because of this, his unfortunate circumstance and self-pity were not what was running through his head at the moment. He wasn’t thinking about the kids, nor about the lesson the teacher he was stepping in for had left. Rand was, as random as it sounds, wondering why he didn’t have a middle name.
“Excuse me, Mr. McLeod?” A girl from his current junior class asked. She was blonde and pretty, he thought, but in a cute way. Rand did not for one second forget his age or position. Lifting his eyebrows, he snapped out of the encompassing abyss that was his mind and turned his blue eyes to meet her grey ones. She smelled like cinnamon perfume that had been sprayed excessively to cover up the stale smell of cigarettes.
“Thank you.” Rand murmured, taking the paper she was holding out to him. He intentionally averted his gaze to the classroom. She was still standing there, looking at him as if she was expecting something. Rand wished he could ignore her, but as a teacher he was required to…
“Yes, Margie? Do you have to tell me something?” He asked slowly. That was always a dangerous question for someone like him to ask pubescent teenage girls. Even before she parted her lips, he knew he’d be regretting it.
