Your name: Candle
Character's Name: Jared McLeod
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Vampire Age NA
Category: Werewolf
Character History:
Jared is originally from Salem, Oregon, the city that his family has lived in since as far back as the Oregon Trails. His mother, Bea McLeod, was a stay at home mother and his father, Neron McLeod, ran a small architectural company with his mother’s brothers, Mathias and Brody. He is the oldest of three. Becky, the middle child, was coddled by him, being the over-protective over brother that he was. Rand, the youngest, was his best friend for the longest time and Jared took it upon himself to give Rand as much brotherly advice as possible. All in all, their family was very loving and normal.
However, when Jared turned 17, he had his first experience with shifting. It was a terrifying experience that sent his family structure into a tizzy. However, thanks to the strong bonds that had been built between them, as well as extensive research on the part of his family, they managed to make it through in one piece. It was shortly thereafter that Jared imprinted on a girl named Tawny Vafra. She was a girl from his high school that he had never really thought too much about, being that she was a bit “hippy-dippy” as an influence from her family. But when he passed her in the hallway one day, it was “love at first sight” – or as close to it as he could get. It did not take long for Jared to woo her and before they knew it a year later they were married. Tawny knew everything that Jared knew about being a werewolf and what it entailed, but she kept it to herself, hiding it even from her sister.
Upon graduating, he and Tawny moved away to Forks, Washington. They chose Forks because Tawny had an intense love of nature, again with her bit of hippy-ness, and Jared had heard of other werewolves congregating there. He got a job as a lumberjack, which suited the man who loved a long hard day’s work, only made easier by his wolf-given strengths and Tawny got a job in Port Angeles as a cashier at a small resale boutique. They lived happily this way for nine years. They decided long before to not have children, so their minimum wage jobs were plenty to support the two in their small, cabin-esque home.
When Jared turned 23, much to his family’s surprise, his brother Rand also began to shift. It was certainly a bonding moment as Jared spent many hours on the phone and in his wolf form with his brother, trying to walk him through the process from a far. The brothers together made their own makeshift pack of sorts, with Jared, of course, being the pack leader. When he turned 27, his family had another surprise; his sister Becky, who had been off at college, moved back home after becoming pregnant. The man who was the father high-tailed it out of town when he found out she was pregnant, leaving Becky with the only option of dropping out of school and moving home. When the red-headed baby was born, she named him Mathias after their uncle.
However, their happiness ended abruptly. When the newborn vampire led by Victoria decided that Tawny looked like a fabulous meal approximately four months prior to the current date, Jared found himself in the horrible situation of surviving his imprint. He went on a rampage, killing any vampire he happened upon. He stopped going to work and sank into such a depression that his family moved from Salem to be with him in Forks. With them, came Bonnie, Tawny’s younger sister. Not only did she come to escape the misery of her house and to live with her second family of sorts, she was the closest thing Jared could get to Tawny.
Character Appearance:
Jared is a relatively big, brawny sort of a guy. He had dark brown hair that he keeps relatively short and every now and again he grows a beard. He has a strong jawline and straight nose which leads up to thick brows and big blue eyes. Before the loss of his wife, his thin lips were almost always in a smile. Jared is a 6’3”, 200lbs man of pure muscle, which his kept up thanks to his job as a logger.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Weaknesses: emotionally unstable, proud to a fault, jealousy
Strengths: physically strong, very caring to those he loves, hardworking
Personality:
As of late, Jared has gone through some rather drastic personality changes. He used to be a rather happy-go-lucky and was rarely in a down mood. But since the loss of his wife, he has fallen into a serious depression. Things he used to enjoy doing, such as playing football and hanging out with friends, he has completely lost interest in. He is prone to angry outbursts and heavy drinking. He has begun to be possessive of everything and everyone he holds dear. If he senses any ill will against those things and people, he is liable to attack the perceived threat.
However, if one is able to calm him down – which is usually someone in his family – he tends to fall back on his old ways. He laughs and jokes and plays around. But he is always teetering on that edge of insanity, threatening to lose his mind at any moment. The wrong word said by the wrong person in the wrong place at the wrong time is all it takes to send him over the deep end, even if it is only temporarily.
How is your character related to the story?
Jared is related to the story because not only is he a werewolf and head of a pack, he also lost his wife and imprint to one of the newborns raised in Victoria’s army. In the event that werewolves are ever needed to kill vampires, Jared would be a fabulous and willing ally to have.
Sample of your RP-ing skills:
Jared sat in his arm chair, staring into the glowing flames that were in his fire place. It was about 2 in the morning, a new record for him. Ever since he lost Tawny, he had been staying up later and later, though never quite as late as 2 am. His mind was focused on absolutely nothing, just staring mindlessly into those flames. A noise from outside caught his attention and he looked towards the window. With a sigh, he dismissed it, looking back towards the fireplace. But his eyes stopped on the hearth, where a picture of Tawny sat. He stared at it, unmoving in his chair for several long minutes, mind completely blank of all thought.
Slowly he stood, taking a step forward so he could reach the picture. He held it in his hands, staring down at his late-wife’s face. Her big blue eyes and flowing blonde locks… he could still remember how soft her hair had been and how much she liked it when he played with in. Her small, fragile frame and bright smile… what he wouldn’t give to just hold her in his arms again. His hands began to shake and his vision blurred with tears. “Oh Tawny…” he muttered quietly, falling to his knees. He set the picture on the floor and leaned forward, his head in his hands, his fingers pulling at his hair. His heart felt as though it was shrinking and his chest as thought I was closing in on itself. “I’m so sorry Tawny…” he muttered again, now breaking down into a sobbing fit.
